Photographer

Hello newcomers, my name is Shannel Resto, founder, and photographer of SJR Photography. I am an internationally based artist, I've currently relocated to Atlanta from New York City as a rehearsal director, choreographer, dancer, artist-activist, photo editor, project manager, and photographer. I grew up in Boston, MA, where I attended Boston Arts Academy and graduated with a BFA in dance at Rutgers University from Mason Gross School of the Arts. I have also trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for dance and choreography while interning for photography at STUDIO 101 in London. I currently freelance with NYC-based dance photographer Whitney Browne and works with NYC-based wedding/ Jacobs Pillow photographer Christopher Duggan.

SJR Photography was founded in 2013 when I decided to collide my professions as a performing artist with my passion for photography by broadening communities' minds by showing different perspectives in art. My work has been described as eclectic, storytelling, and detailed. My acclaimed clients and published works include Life as a JPEG Book by Whitney Browne, New York City Center - The New York Times, PLAYBILL, Time Out NYC, The Jerusalem Post, Sterling McDavid- The Starling Project, PaperCity Magazine, The Medium, Rose Rockers in Forbes, Revival Blue Denim, Burnett New York- NYFW, Eryc Taylor Dance- Inside Patricia Field's Closet and EARTH, PBS- ALL ARTS, No Longer Empty- Pentacle, Peridance, Earl Mosely Institute of the Arts and more. My choreography has premiered at Raw Artist Showcase, Solo Gallery- The Travelers Obscura, Harlem Art Stroll Exhibition, and the Soho Blooming Art show. I want to communicate through my art the freedom to explore the impossible possibilities through my lens.
